As a young man I tried to influence the world with the music I listened to . . . Motown, Beatles, Three Dog Night, Chicago, etc. The louder, the better! Now as a “seasoned, wiser man” I do not listen to loud music, but I hear a continuous song in my heart with no lyrics. It has calmed my overall well-being and provides nourishment to my soul.
I read the words called out (Proverbs 9:3) from the highest point in the city .“Leave your simple (means foolish) ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.” Proverbs 9:6. Wisdom taught me to listen to the music that comes only from Jesus. This music makes me dance to the beat of a different Drummer; The One who is way better than Ringo Starr.
My life changed as I read, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7. Fear in this scripture is not about being scared or frightened. It is about being in awe and giving reverence to the Lamb of God. As I immersed myself in the living water of the four gospels, I gained knowledge and understanding from our Lord’s example. I have grown to know what really matters in life, that is, to love God and love people. If you close your eyes and know the song, you can almost hear Danny Gokey singing that lyric.
Life is surrounded by people who judge us day in and day out. They will not acknowledge us when we succeed but laugh when we fail. They think that their words and opinions can make us or break us. My purpose is now to live a humble life that pleases God until He calls me Home. My soul is set on a direct course towards Heaven.
You will not hear loud music blasting from my vehicle anymore. My hope is to crank up the volume from the song and joy in my heart as I put it on paper. I pray Wisdom enhances my writing to glorify Him magnificently.
Best wishes for a prosperous 2021. May it be filled with wisdom, knowledge and understanding. It is time to Turn It Up.
