The Vine
Jesus said “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you abide in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) This is my favorite scripture.
When the words of Jesus abide in us, our desires will be given to us, according to God’s will (John 15:7). Hope you are enjoying reading His Words as much as I love writing about them.
Look at the attached picture of the old, red
barn in the Texas Hill country. It has seen better days but now the vine of urbanization is about to overtake it. The surveyors have already marked off residential parcels where new homes will soon be built.
Currently, this farmhouse is surrounded by the mooing of cows as it fades into the sunset of obsolescence. The master-planned housing community has almost reached the property line where the old barn sits.
Will the barn be knocked down or refurbished? It all depends on the master developer’s plan.
Sort of like like us - do we follow our own plan (which is really no plan) or do we follow the plan The Master Planner has set for each of us. The Bible tells us of His Plan. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Perhaps that old, red barn will become the setting for a petting zoo. Maybe, a portion of this land can be made into a small park. Better yet, how about a community garden so children can learn to plant, cultivate, and share fruit. All of this TBD for the old, red barn - it all depends on what plan that is followed.
Whose plan are you following . . . yours or God’s??? You can’t change the past, but you change how you will finish the rest of your story. My life changed for the better after I realized I needed God’s help and direction. I knew my life was messed up but did not know how to fix so I called out for His help. God poured down His mercy and grace as He placed me on the right path more than 23 years ago. If He did it for me, God can do it for you.
If you need help in getting better direction for your life, call out to God for help. His promise says, “‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’” Jeremiah 33:3
God is our Waymaker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, Light in the darkness - that is Who He is! Thank you Lord for loving us like you do!
