The Harvest

That’s What Jesus Said:

This is the 9th Monday morning posting of a short devotional based on His words.  It is called The Harvest

During His ministry, Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He felt compassion for the lost . . .

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.”‭‭ Matthew‬ ‭9‬:‭37‬ ‭

Many people are deceived because they think they will get to Heaven because they follow the rules of society and go to church.

If they are asked, “Are you Christian?” The answer is resoundingly, “YES!” But, does this person truly understand establishing a personal relationship with the One True Shepherd? Our good, fellow human beings are helpless as sheep without a shepherd.

About four months ago I met a young man at a Men’s Christian conference. After he told me his name was Joseph, I asked him if he had read the beautiful story of Joseph the Dreamer found in the book of Genesis. He told me he had not. I asked him if he was Christian and he told me “Yes!” My mind was  confused as I thought most Christians have heard the story of Joseph and his brothers.

Prompted by the Spirit, I asked Joseph if he was born again. He looked confused and responded, “What’s that?” With divine guidance, I was able to help him understand about becoming born again. After we discussed Nicodemus encounter with Jesus as described in John, chapter 3, the 17-year old Joseph understood and accepted the free gift of Salvation through Jesus.

This conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus is featured in Salvation Station in a chapter called Nick at Night. It helped me and gave me the insight to write that: “Darkness cannot remain where the light of Heaven shines!” Please take time to read Chapter three in the Book of John.

Jesus also said, “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.” John‬ ‭10‬:‭14‬-‭15‬ ‭

The promise continues from Jesus, the Good Shepherd: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”  John‬ ‭10‬:‭27‬-‭28‬ ‭

Sounds good so far, right? As a believer, you know Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. So what are you doing to help gather the Harvest? The lost are like sheep without a shepherd. In reality, if we know the Truth and just hoard it to ourselves, isn’t it a form selfishness? When is the last time you told somebody about Jesus? Do you know the Way, go the Way and Show the Way? If not, what are you waiting for?

The Harvest is plentiful , but the workers are few. If you need help, telling someone about Jesus - consider buying Salvation Station for someone. Available at Amazon or at WestBow Press. Currently, I am 'souled out' of my copies at home.
