Independence Day

During His ministry, Jesus went through all the towns and villages proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.

Jesus went to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed.

One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” Then JESUS SAID to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked. John‬ ‭5‬:‭1‬-‭3‬, ‭5‬-‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

That day the invalid became independent, the Truth set him free. It was the lame man’s Independence Day!

So just like that came the Salvation of Jesus. It cannot be earned by obedience to a man-made system or theological knowledge. You can’t get to Heaven because you are more good than bad or from following familial teachings that are not biblically based.

It’s plain and simple, JESUS SAID, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

It is appropriate that Jesus asked this man if he wanted to be healed. Today it’s the same

question he asks of those who are living with a condition that has made them an invalid and/or also invalid in the eyes of society.

Salvation is a gift of God; it is only by His grace that we are saved. Ephesians 2: 8-9
