Singing with a beat of a different Drummer

After I accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, there was a new song in my heart. The song fits right in with the beating of my heart. Did you know your heart beats about 100,000 times per day or 36,500,000 per year? Thinking about all those heart beats also makes me feel tired.

As a young man I tried to influence the world with the music I listened to: Motown, Beatles, Three Dog Night, Chicago, and so forth. The louder, the better! Now as a “seasoned, wiser man,” I do not listen to loud music, but I hear a continuous song in my heart with no lyrics. It has calmed my overall well-being and provides nourishment to my soul.

Proverbs 9:3 tells how wisdom called out from the highest point in the city. “Leave your simple [means foolish] ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight” (Prov . 9:6). Wisdom taught me to listen to the music that comes only from Jesus. This music makes me dance to the beat of a different Drummer; The One who is way better than Ringo Starr. That reminds me of a comment John Lennon made when asked if Ringo was the greatest drummer in the world. John quickly responded, “He is not even the best drummer in the Beatles.”

You will not hear loud music blasting from my vehicle anymore. My changed heart plays a continuous song without my knowledge of the lyrics.

When I sincerely asked Jesus to come into my heart on that crisp November morning, my change was instant. Immediately, a wave of warmth covered me from head to toe, and electricity danced in my veins. My lungs got unclogged as I breathed in life.

I have wondered if a heart physically changes when you receive salvation.

If my heart could talk, would it tell you my addiction to alcohol is gone? Would feelings of anger, resentment, hatred, jealousy, plotting revenge, unforgiveness, loneliness, and selfishness no longer be there?

Does a heart make a noise when it changes? Is there a sound when it transforms from stone to freshly plowed ground? Does the blood flow sound like a babbling brook? Would the sound you hear resemble a giggle from a young child? Does a heart sing when your soul is forgiven? Is there a sweet sound like a bird’s song as it awaits the sunrise?

Perhaps the sound is like the delicate ping from the triangle during a symphony. Once you get set free, your heart will never be the same. My heart now sings perpetual tunes without words and will never stop praising.

Ask Jesus to come into your heart so you can go into the world and praise with the song your heart wants to sing.

The melody that comes from your heart will come out as a smile as bright as the sun. You can then start the day with praise and end your day with thanksgiving. God bless you!
