Last week I wrote a blog called Same Power Part 1 (Lights off). As promised, here is the Same Power Part 2 (Lights On)
After Jesus’ death, there came a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph who asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. “Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.” Matthew 27:59-60 NIV
Jesus was dead, wrapped in a cloth, inside a tomb sealed with a big stone.
Three days later God turned the power back on. Since no one was inside the tomb, how do we know what happened at the precise moment Jesus came back to life??? Was there any evidence of what occurred? The answer is ABSOLUTELY as shown below.
The Book of John Chapter 20 tells us that Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and found the rock rolled back and the tomb was empty. She thought someone had stolen Jesus’ body so she hurried to tell the disciples. John and Peter ran to the tomb and they only found His burial clothes.
“Then Simon Peter came along behind John and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen.” John 20:6-7 NIV
*** Please note there was a cloth that was wrapped around Jesus’ head that was separate from the linen.
Many years ago, I read a book called, The Shroud of Turin. It is believed to be the burial cloth (linen) of our Lord Jesus. Much study and testing has been performed on this cloth over the years to determine its authenticity. There is also the Sudarium of Oviedo that is said to be the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head.
Here are some main points that I have heard or read about the Shroud of Turin and the Sudarium of Oviedo. This might lead you to do more research and/or help you draw your own conclusions:
The 3D images on the Shroud of Turin cannot be recreated. Tests have been conducted that cannot produce enough megawatts of power to leave a similar image with a blast of light. Even all the kilowatts required to turn on every light at the same time at the Dallas Cowboys stadium is not enough power to leave a similar image.
The blood stains on the Shroud and Sudarium match; so does the nose circumference and wound patterns from the crown of thorns.
Pollen grains from both burial clothes showed they came from Jerusalem.
It was customary to place coins on the eyes of the corpse for burial during the period when Jesus was entombed. The image imprinted on the Shroud from these coins showed they were minted during the reign of Pontius Pilate.
The blood type AB was found on both articles. This blood type is rare and most likely from the same person. Additional genetics research showed the blood contained only 23 chromosomes. Hmmm???
The Shroud of Turin is the burial cloth of a person who was scourged, crowned with thorns, crucified, and pierced with a lance. The only person killed in this manner was our Lord Jesus Christ. Evidence is also there of the supernatural power exuded at the moment Jesus was brought back to life.
As believers we have that Same Power that gave Him victory over death.
God has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead! Plug into that power so you can have eternal life that cannot be destroyed!
I leave you with this final thought, how much POWER will it take when Revelation 1:7 is fulfilled: “Look, He is coming with the clouds,” and “every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him.” This is difficult for me to comprehend . . . Every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him. How can this take place?
Will you be ready to receive Him? Are you plugged into that Same Power?
God bless you! Until the next time - tell someone about Jesus.
